Faculty and Staff

Mary Petersen - Artistic Director

Ms. Petersen began her training in Chicago studying ballet, jazz, and character dance with Lorel Hessler, Walter Camryn and Bentley Stone. Her professional training continued at Joffrey School of Ballet in NYC and at the Royal Academy of Dancing in London, England. She augmented her dance training at the American Conservatory of Music, where she majored in piano and composition, and studied dramatic arts at Harvard University's American Repertory Theatre. Ms. Petersen has taught ballet in New York, Chicago and Boston, and was artistic director of the New England Dance Ensemble. She received the Massachusetts Arts Grant for choreography.

Linda DiBona Brassel - Director of the Advanced Ballet Program

Ms Brassel is a former Principal dancer with the Boston Ballet, Harkness Ballet of New York, London Festival Ballet and Basel Ballet of Switzerland. She has been a guest artist with companies throughout the U S. and Europe and helped found and direct The Newport News Ballet of Virginia. She has taught at North Carolina School for the Arts, Steps Studio and Eliot Feld Ballet School in N.Y. and at the The Boston Ballet School.

Deidre Williams - Director of Jazz Program

Ms. Williams has a BA from Boston University. She was a scholarship recipient at Steps on Broadway in NYC. She has performed in commercials, TV shows, themeparks, and has choreographed for nationally-ranked figure skaters.

Christin Caplan - Jazz

Ms Caplan holds a BS in Elementary Education from Boston University. She trained at LSB, Summer Stages, BU and Dana Hall. She is a company member of Rainbow Tribe's Embrace Dance Company and Tribe the Dance Company, and guest dancer with Luminarium Dance Company and the Adagio Dancers. Christin is currently on the dance faculty at BU, MIT, the American Chinese Art Society, and the Boston Public Schools.

Gail Fanning Grove - Pre-Ballet, Ballet, Modern Faculty

Ms. Fanning-Grove received a BFA in Dance from The Boston Conservatory with a concentration in choreography, pedagogy, and labanalysis. Her choreography has been presented throughout New England and she directed a children?s modern dance company in Boston.

Denise Herlihy - Ballet Faculty

Denise began training with Francis Kotelly in Arlington, MA and then entered Boston Ballet School's professional division, where she continued her training through junior high and high school. She graduated from Wellesley College and danced as a member of Wellesley College Dancers while there. Since graduation Denise has danced with the Continental Ballet Company and BalletRox and has taught ballet at Minnesota Dance Theatre, the Acton School of Ballet, and Jose Mateo's Ballet Theatre. Denise currently dances with North Atlantic Ballet.

Kathy Kozul - Ballet Faculty

Kathy Kozul is a former member of the Boston Ballet and the Boston Repertory Ballet, where she also served as ballet mistress. She has been on the faculty at the Boston School of Ballet. The Boston Repertory Ballet and the Gold School. She is currently on the faculty at the Walnut Hill School of the Arts, where she has also served as associate director for 5 years.

Li-Ann Lim - Ballet, Modern Faculty

Li-Ann holds an MFA in dance from the University of California Irvine. She has studied at Lexington School of Ballet, Joffrey Ballet School in New York City, Barnard Dance Department, and Columbia University. Li-Ann holds an MFA in dance from the University of California Irvine.

Nadine Moody - Ballet Faculty
Ms. Moody danced with Agnes DeMille's American Heritage Dance Theatre and Ruth Page International Ballet. She has taught at Alvin Ailey and Steps in NYC and is certified to teach Zena Rommett Floor-Barre.

Rhonda Miller - Ballet Faculty

Trained at the National Academy of Arts in Champaign, Illinois. Principal Dancer with Ballet West and National Ballet of Illinois. Taught at Boston Ballet and University of Utah

Dede Albers - Visiting Emeritus Director of the Character Dance Program/Ballet Faculty

Ms. Albers has a BFA in Ballet from the University of Utah. She was the recipient of a Fulbright-Hays Performing Arts Grant to the Bolshoi Ballet School in Moscow, Russia. Ms. Albers has been on the Ballet Faculty at the University of Utah and taught and choreographed for the National Dance Institute in New York City, working under artistic director Jacques d'Amboise.
